The Beginning

A memo sent by Peter Hamilton of Pittsburg State University, Kansas and George Foster of New York AT&T to the list of interested persons in the Public Relations Interest Group on June 4, 1984 summarized the first PRIG meeting at the San Francisco conference of ICA on May 27, 1984. Hamilton who headed the ICA Task Force on Public Relations Instruction basically alerted the national organization to a group of professionals interested in continuing the development of a Public Relations Interest Group within ICA and proceeded to contact this group to set up the first public relations program for the Hawaii meeting in 1985.

Those present at the meeting and listed in the letter sent by Hamilton and Foster were:

Forest Conklin, David Dozier, James Fee, Kathleen Garthright-Petelle, Howard Greenbaum, Roger Hadley, Vincent Hazleton, Susan Hellweg, Donald MacDonald, John Madsen, Bonita Dostal Neff, Sanford Peterson, Bob Ross, Steve Smith, Jim Van Leuven, Geoffrey Weinman.

Below is a chronological listing of the elected public relations officers from the initial PRIG to the current status as a division.
