Welcome to the ICA PR Division Web Site
Message from the new Chair, Chiara Valentini, June 2015
Dear PRD members,
I’ve just returned from Puerto Rico and I’d like to follow up with a short email with some information about this year’s ICA conference in San Juan and upcoming activities.
We had very good quality program with excellent paper presentations. I hope that those who were able to attend the conference enjoyed it. If you have comments or ideas for different panel/presentation formats that we could try to implement next year, please write me an email.
Those of you who attended will also know that, despite our efforts to organize our annual reception after the business meeting, it did not turn out as planned. Unfortunately, the ICA administrative team made a mistake and booked our reception for a different day than we had agreed. I immediately followed up with the administration team and the executive director, and they apologized profusely – unfortunately errors like this occur every now and then when they organize all the events across 28 divisions and interest groups. I am also pleased to be able to tell you that ICA has agreed not to charge the division for the reception. This means we have a positive net income balance that we can use for different activities next year. I will look more precisely into our finances in the upcoming months and discuss with the other officers the best way to use them.
As for myself, I’m taking over the position of Chair for next upcoming two years. It is a great honor to be Chair of the Public Relations division and to serve your interests. At the same time, it will require great endeavor to keep up with the high standards and great leadership of my two predecessors, Juan Carlos Molleda and Jennifer Bartlett. Both of them have given a strong direction to our division and made it one of the most international at ICA. I will try my best to build on their efforts and make the Division a forum for an international community of multicultural public relations scholars driven by innovative research and practice at the forefront of the field.
I would like to take this opportunity to officially thank Jennifer Bartlett. She has been an excellent leader, always ready to help, and was extremely kind in her efforts to familiarize me with ICA practices during my early years as an ICA officer. Thank you so much!
Jennifer will not completely leave us. She will be involved with a small group of members to work on a plan for increasing the Division chances to promote strong Public Relations scholars as next year candidates for ICA Fellowship and she has proposed herself for one of the ICA internationalization posts, which we hope she gets.
The Division is and will be in need of your help. Besides seeking reviewers, there will be other opportunities especially when the social media policy is accepted and implemented, and as our plans to update the division website take shape. So, we really hope to count on as many of you as possible for your continued support of the many initiatives and events of the Division.
Best greetings from sunny Denmark
